still...................

We still have snow and more is falling as I write this. My car is buried again but it doesn't really matter as all the locks are frozen and I can't get into it anyway, Had to borrow DD car yesterday to drive the oldest DGD home. This is more heavy wet snow that sticks to power lines and tree branches. Hopefully nothing breaks.
We have lost the plastic roof on the lean-too and the one on the green shed is threatening to collapse but one of the major problems is ............................................................I STILL HAVE NO BOOTS.
I did go shopping for boots but that was an exercise is futility .
1- Most of the boots have HEELS ............ I mean HIGH STILETTO HEELS ...................I can't even wear shoes with these heels anymore never mind wearing them in 2 feet of snow. I don't even want the square heels
2- Then most of the boots are knee high at least on most people ................... thigh high boots might be good in the snow if you could get them zipped up but it doesn't work for me..
3- THERE IS NO LINING IN THESE BOOST OR ROOM FOR SOCKS so even if your feet are dry they will freeze.
4- Then there are the odd pair that actually do have a lining, no zipper, do not come to mid thigh and no stiletto heels. I can't get my wide foot with the high arch or my thick calf into them.
4- so we get to the boots that might actually fit me......................... they look like something my Grandmother wore when she was 75. Don't get the wrong idea here ...................... I loved my Grandmother ............. I am already shaped like her I just don't want to dress like her. Back to the boots........... they are ankle high, warm, waterproof.................. oh yeah most of the above mentioned boots are not water proof and if they are they would crack in below zero weather. OOPS off topic....... sort of ........ again. Boots have a zipper and look like H%&^%&. They are no good in 2 feet of snow or 1 foot of snow or 6" of snow.
This means I am out in the snow in my water-proof clogs. So here I am in 2 feet of snow with clogs on ....................... They are green so fit in with the season but really they are no good unless I have shoveled the pathway to get out. You step in the snow and the clogs are................. FULL OF IT................ ( snow that is). Fortunately I have wool socks so my feet don't get cold ...... Just WET.
Looks like I will be shoveling again if we want to go any where. Fortunately we have lots of food, lots of wine and an abundance so yarn, fibre and fabric. The TV and the computer are still working so we are both happy. I think I will work on one of the shawls I want to make.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.

  1. Time to resort to the old Farm trick. Tuck your pants into whatever footwear you have. Tie or lace or whatever & pull garbage bags over footwear up onto each leg. Tie with whatever. Go out into the deep snow & do what you have to. This keeps feet, legs & clothing dry until you rip them, wear them out or take them off.
It's snowing like hell here too.

  2. Karen, I seemed to have lost a boot this winter, and have been shoveling in loafers myself. So, I feel your pain. Stay home with your wine and knitting!

I hope you had a wonderful New Year.
